1. _I_n_t_r_o_d_u_c_t_i_o_n
WorkShop Pro MPF is a programming tool that enables the
individual programmer to understand the structure and
parallelization of his or her Fortran program. It consists
of a single program, the Parallel Analyzer View, _c_v_p_a_v,
along with an associated app-defaults file, User's Manual,
and man page.
The Parallel Analyzer View reads analysis files generated
either by PFA, or MIPSpro Fortran 77 7.x or higher,
compiler, and displays information about loops and OMP/PCF
constructs in the source files in a window. The analysis
file contains the information currently shown on a listing
file, and some additional, more detailed, information. The
Parallel Analyzer View takes that information, and applies
some heuristics to present it in a more comprehensible form
with a graphical user interface.
The Parallel Analyzer View is integrated with WorkShop 2.6,
and will allow examination of a program's loops in
conjunction with a performance experiment on a parallel
Fortran processor. When run in this mode, the source
displays will be annotated with line-level performance data,
and the list of loops may be sorted in order of performance
cost, so that the user's attention may be focused on the
important loops.

You should have at least 16 Mbytes of RAM to run WorkShop
Pro MPF. If you are working with large programs, especially
for performance analysis, Silicon Graphics recommends 32
Mbytes of RAM. Furthermore many of the programs have large
address spaces and therefore use a large amount of swap
space. Silicon Graphics suggests that if you see the tools
being killed due to lack of swap space, increase the swap
space using _f_x to repartition your drive. Alternatively,
you may use the _s_w_a_p command to add additional swap space;
see the _s_w_a_p(1M) man page.
